The municipality of Tysnes is a group of islands south of Bergen. Tysnes has for over a hundred years been one of the most popular vacation spots in the southwest of Norway. This can be contributed to its wonderful nature and clean environment. You can find traces from ancient places in Uggdal, Onarheim and Årbakka. In Uggdalsdalen remnants of an ancient thoroughfare are shown in stone-paved roads and stepping stones over the river. There are also traces of iron-age settlement. The islands of Tysnes were already from ancient times visited from all the region, by people who gathered to religious ceremonies and kept the status of a cult-place.
